BULAWAYO Chiefs’ profile continues to grow with the team jerseys now selling in the United Kingdom, a few months after the club Twitter handle received a nod from Italian giants AS Roma.
Chiefs fought to the bitter end to survive relegation and will have another dance with the Castle Lager Premiership next season.
“We have entered into a partnership with our UK-based partners. Our 2019 season jerseys are already on sale at a price of 30 pounds,” said Bulawayo Chiefs media liaison officer Thulani “Javas” Sibanda.
Bulawayo Chiefs have close to 4 000 followers on Twitter, 2 600 fewer than Highlanders. Clearly taking a cue from the captivating Bulawayo Chiefs Twitter account, the big boys Highlanders, Chicken Inn and Caps United have now taken to interacting with their followers instead of using the social media platform as a notice board.
The Caps United Twitter account has over 14 000 followers and is getting creative by the day by throwing in witty football jokes coupled with team news, making its presence bold online.
Despite losing to Highlanders last Sunday, Chiefs survived relegation following Triangle United’s 4-2 win against Nichrut who completed the list of four teams that have been axed from the topflight.
When Newman Sianchali struck with the last kick of the game, Chiefs players saw their world collapsing, thinking that their survival chances were slim heading to the last game against ZPC Kariba, unknown to them that Triangle had done them a favour.
Chiefs had started the first half on fire, forcing Highlanders into making mistakes and breaching Bosso’s backline on numerous occasions.
