Chiefs looking at signing Musona?

JOHANNESBURG. — A Zimbabwean striker could be set for a Kaizer Chiefs trial or a final decision on his latest scouting assessment, the Siya crew understands. 

Siya sources very close to both the club and the player have indicated that the forward is the younger brother of Chiefs legend Knowledge Musona, the 27-year-old Walter Musona. 

Sources added that Chiefs’ scouts could have been following the FC Platinum striker who is now part of the Zimbabwe national team at the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, having recently drawn their match against Nigeria. 

“It’s true Kaizer Chiefs have shown interest in Walter (Musona). What I am not sure of is when they want to have a look at him,” said the Siya source. 

“Is it going to be during the AFCON break or even before that since the season in Zimbabwe is coming to an end? But there have been Chiefs representatives or scouts who have made it clear that they want the striker,” the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second Siya source stated that Amakhosi are looking for a striker who can solve their goalscoring problem, which is to convert more of the many chances they are creating. 

“They need a striker as soon as they can. You know Ashley Du Perez is injured and the other strikers have not been doing very well and that’s why they need another striker who would push the others,” said the second Siya source. 

“But they also need to score goals which will help the team and Walter (Musona) is their immediate target. But I am not sure when he is expected in South Africa. That could be in the next transfer window or as soon as possible because of the ending season in Zimbabwe,” the source concluded. Musona has PSL experience with Polokwane City from a few years ago, before their recent relegation. He has also played for South African club Sekhukhune United so his familiarity with the league could help him adapt faster, unlike other foreign players who need time to settle.
