Chigede: True Women’s rights defender

Mr Pedzisai Chigede is a male ZWLA peer educator. He has a sound background in Family Law. Mr Chigede trained as a community legal educator under ZWLA in 2007. After working for two years he was appointed as the focal person for all community legal educators in his district of Mutoko. He is working with 26 other community legal educators and has immensely contributed to the success of the community legal educator model.Despite the exit of ZWLA in Mutoko district, Mr Chigede continues to coordinate his team to make access to justice for women and children a reality through provision of legal advice at community level, making referrals to relevant service providers based on the client’s type of case, conducting community education at ward and village level.

He coordinates quarterly meetings with other community legal educators to effectively execute their mandate.

From January 2015 he has with his team managed to assist 47 children to get birth certificates and 11 adults to get national identity cards.

He has also spearheaded the unearthing of sexual violence matters in his community and he continues to champion women and children’s rights in Mutoko.
