DYNAMOS FC leadership has confirmed that their teenage sensation, Elton Chikona is set to leave for Finland on a two-year deal.

Talks between the Harare giants and the undisclosed Finnish side have been on-going since last week and Dynamos chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze confirmed the development, stating that only the contract is left to be signed.

Mashingaidze added that Chikona’s new destination will be revealed in due course after all the paperwork has been concluded. The club has given Chikona all their blessings to explore his talent at a different level.

He also told Chronicle Sport that he is confident that their youngster will shine and fly the Zimbabwean flag high at a bigger stage.

“We can confirm that we have had exchanges with a club in Finland in the last weeks and they have indicated a long-term interest in the boy (Chikona). The final paperwork is the only thing remaining.  However, as a club we have given him all our blessings to go and shine out there which will also open other frontiers for other players back home.

“We are confident that he will fly our flag high in Finland. It (the move) also shows that we (Dynamos) have a lot of talent to unleash to the international scene,” said Mashingaidze.

The 18-year old Chikona is a Dynamos development graduate who was promoted to the senior team this season and has shown a lot of potential since breaking into the side.

He made his senior debut in a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Bulawayo Chiefs at National Sports Stadium. It didn’t take long for the youngster to make his mark, finding the back of the net in a 3-0 win over ZPC Kariba before making it two against Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium.

He is a promising centre striker, who has featured five times for the former champions in the on-going campaign.

Against the Gamecocks, the Harare giants won 2-0 and, in that match, the teenage sensation was named the best player on the field.

The right footed and energetic striker is set to follow in Bill Antonio’s footsteps.

Antonio secured a move from Dynamos to Belgian side KV Mechelen in 2022 after a series of impressive performances.

Chikona was also the star of the show as Dynamos thrashed Yadah 5-1 in a Castle Lager Premiership match played at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday. — @brandon_malvin
