SHABANIE Mine coach Tendai Chikuni has given the biggest hint yet that he could leave the asbestos miners by indicating that he had been working without a contract and had given them enough time to work on it.
Chikuni guided the Chinda Boys to the Zifa Central Soccer League championship before making startling revelations that he had not received a salary for the one and half seasons he has coached Shabanie Mine.
“There are things that I set to achieve with Shabanie Mine since I joined them during midseason last year, which was to build a team that could challenge for the championship, and I have achieved that,” Chikuni said.
“After the achievement I have engaged the executive to give me a contract since I have been working without one since I took over. I am a family man and at times I need to look at the future because my welfare is equally important and therefore I have decided to consider other offers that have come my way.”
Following his feat with Shabanie Mine, the unassuming coach, who has previously understudied the likes of Rahman Gumbo, Madinda Ndlovu and Barry Daka, has been one of the most sought after coaches in the country.
He is believed to be the front runner for the Chapungu coaching job after the club’s selection panel finished conducting interviews.
Dreadlocked former Hardbody coach Tavaka Gumbo and Nesbert Saruchera have also been linked to the job.
Chapungu chairman Fungai Makuyana said they had concluded the selection process and the executive had made its recommendations to the board of governors, with an announcement set to be made “before Christmas”.
