UNBEATEN Correctional Netball Club and Glow Petroleum Netball Club could settle the Rainbow Netball League title with six matches to spare when they meet at Chikurubi Prison Bubble today.
The two sides are tied on 45 points after 23 matches each and a draw apiece. They drew when they first met on May 9 and Correctional lead on goal difference with +1 091 to Glow +965.
According to Precious Mudenge, the league’s fixtures secretary the game will settle the championship unless either sides loses or draws another match, which she described as unlikely considering the games that are left.
A draw in any of those matches would leave the title to be decided on goal difference at the end of the season.
Mudenge had earlier predicted that the 17 October clash would be the decider.
“We are expecting fireworks on the 17th of October that is definitely when the title is going to be decided,” said Mudenge.
The meeting carries history, Glow Petroleum won the league in 2021, 2022 and 2023 while Correctional were champions in 2024 and 2025.
The sides have only lost to each other in the last four years and of their meetings since 2023 Glow Petroleum have won three and Correctional two.
Glow Petroleum head coach Lloyd Makunde who joined the club at the start of the season replacing Pepe Siyachitema, said his side is not looking for motivation.
“We will approach Saturday’s game with caution and confidence as we have much respect for the champions,” said Makunde.
“This particular game is self-motivating,” he said.
Glow Petroleum have used their games in hand to draw level with the leaders beating Green Fuel 50-46 last weekend while Correctional thrashed White Angels 97-10.
Elsewhere fourth placed Green Fuel Netball Club with 39 points from 24 matches face Tenax
Netball Club and ZRP Bulawayo at Ross Camp Bulawayo Bubble, while fifth placed Black Mambas
Netball Club with 36 points feature at Mkushi Depot Bubble.
The weekend matches carry the league’s breast cancer awareness theme “Together We Support
Breast Cancer Awareness: Early Detection Saves Lives.”
