AN inmate serving at Chikurubi Maximum prison has appeared in court facing indecent assault charges after he sodomised his cellmate.
Wirimai Gowero was remanded in custody by Harare magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa and advised to approach the High Court for bail application.
Circumstances are that sometime around October 2025, the victim was sleeping in the E hall cell together with the accused person.
The court heard that Gowera took advantage of the complainant, who was asleep and he forcibly had sexual intercourse through the complainant’s anus without his consent.
The issue came to light on October 17 when the victim went and narrated his story to the prison officer who was on duty.
A report was made at ZRP Highlands, the complainant was escorted to the hospital for medical treatment, and medical affidavits may be produced in court as exhibits.
