ZIMBABWEAN top amateur women’s golfer Primrose Chikwaya continued with her fine form after she won her second University of Northwestern Ohio Racers University golfer of the week.
Chikwaya a UNOH freshman picked up her second Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Women’s Golfer of the Week award after winning the individual title at the Lourdes Spring Invitational.
The former Royal Harare-based player, who moved to the United States on a golf scholarship early this year, is making an impact for her team and as an individual.
Chikwaya highlighted the week with a first-place finish at the 18-hole Lourdes Spring Invitational on Wednesday.
She matched the program record with a four-under 68 pacing the field by five strokes for her first individual title of her career.
Chikwaya also competed in the stacked field at the Music City Classic last week featuring nine nationally ranked teams and (RV) Coastal Georgia shooting a 254.
The win was Chikwaya’s second after she also won last week’s golfer of the week.
For her first-place finish, Chikwaya inspired her team UNOH women’s golf to place second finish of eight teams at the Lourdes Spring Invitational.
Chikwaya paced the field by five strikes in the 18-hole tournament shooting a four-under 68 that matches the programmes’ lowest round ever set in 2019.
It was the freshman’s first top finish of her career and third top-five of the season.
Other UNOH players Rafaella Brigante earned her first top-five of the season in fourth place with a six-over-78 as Kanadie Daeger carded a season-best nine-over-81 with Kayla Watkins and Riley Daeger rounding out the team with a 91 and 98, respectively.
The event marked the end of the regular season for women’s golf as they prepared to defend their five straight conference titles.
The 2024 WHAC Women’s Championship will be played April 22-23 at Stonehedge Golf Club in Augusta.
