TRAGEDY struck a Headlands family after a girl who was walking home with her mother and two siblings collapsed and died on the spot.
The sad incident happened last Wednesday, leaving the community shell-shocked.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident and said the mother, who was walking ahead, was informed by her other child of her sibling’s collapse.
“On July 8, 2026, at Berthel Cop Business Centre in Kubatana of Headlands, Juliet Mashereni, a woman aged 36, was walking from Gazaland Private College where she works as a teacher to her home at Kubatana Business Centre with her three children aged 6 years, 4 years and 1 year seven months respectively,” he said.
“About a few metres from their home, her six-year-old child called out to her that her four-year-old daughter had collapsed.
“She saw her lying on the ground on her stomach, unconscious. The mother tried to lift her while calling her to no avail. She informed her husband, and they rushed the girl to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“A report was made to ZRP Headlands and police attended the scene. The body was conveyed to Rusape General Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem. Investigations are in progress.”
