A 20-year-old man from Hwange who was charged with two counts of sexually assaulting male juveniles was last Wednesday slapped with a 12 month sentence by a Hwange magistrate.

He will, however, serve an effective nine months after three months were conditionally suspended for five years. Craig Gandiya (20) from Chibondo had appeared before Hwange regional magistrate Mr Collet Ncube. The State, represented by Mrs Charline Gorerino, told the court that Gandiya molested two male juveniles aged seven and eight. It was the State case that on dates unknown to the prosecutor, Gandiya was at the home of the seven-year-old juvenile when he called him to the backyard and molested him once.

On the second count, he asked the second victim, aged eight, to accompany him somewhere but took him to an unfinished building in Empumalanga. While there, he played pornographic videos, undressed the boy and molested him once. The matter came to light on 25 August when one of the victims revealed the matter to his brother.
