A Harare couple is appealing for financial support to send its cancer-stricken child to India for treatment.
Mr Edmore Masekesa and Ms Racheek Kubvakacha are appealing for $20 000 to enable them to send their two-year-old child Muzivaishe, who was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma cancer in August 2014.
“She started falling ill when she was only a year old, back in August 2014, but the infection had only manifested on her right hand.
“We went for tests in November 2014 which revealed that she was suffering from Rhabdomyosarcoma.”
“A month later after the tests, the hand began to give her pain as it kept enlarging, which after consulting the doctors, concluded that she should be amputated.”
“On May 22, 2015 she was amputated. Soon after the amputation on June 9, 2015, she began to receive chemotherapy every month,” said Mr Masekesa.
Mr Masekesa said two months after Muzivaishe started chemotherapy, she developed a growth in the mouth which later “moved to the eye”.
“The doctors undertook a biopsy test which revealed that it was Rhabdomyosarcoma, the same cancer infection which had affected and led to the amputation of her right hand.”
Mr Masekesa said she had to undergo another operation on the eye, which unfortunately has not turned out to be a success story as the eye continues to enlarge, causing her to feel pain.
“Doctors thought that chemotherapy and other related operations were going to yield successful results, but to no avail.
“They have advised us that the only option left was to offer palliative care to her, but she is still in pain. They have urged us to secure US$20 000 to enable us to take her to India.”
