IN A bid to bring community development reigning Miss Universities Zimbabwe, Valerie Chingonzo has joined forces with Childline in children campaigns.
In an interview with the Herald Entertainment, the model said she is ready to assist children in various ways.
“When I was approached by Childline it was an honour for me to accept the offer since I am passionate about children.
“A lot of bad things are happening in our society and children should be conscientised about abuse amongst other things through campaigns,” she said.
Childline director Jonathan Muchuchu confirmed the development.
“Yes Valerie will be working with us. We decided to rope her in because she is capable to articulate our message to the young children in a different way,” he said.
“She will be assisting us when we do campaigns in schools, churches and other places. Childline is a free, confidential counselling service for all children below the age of 18years.
“It is there to respond to all children in distress, to counsel, comfort and protect all children in Zimbabwe through the provision of a free confidential 24 hour child helpline, free postal service and Drop-in Advice centres.”
Chingonzo said numerous long term activities were in the pipe line.
She recently joined a club called Building Opportunities on Students Talents Entrepreneurial Action Us (Boost Enactus) that runs community development programmes.
Chingonzo partnered with beauty advisor Cheryl Mavundura of Avroy Shlain Cosmetics and created a club at the Women’s Open University in Africa called “Kuzvida”.
“This club focuses on Women’’s self esteem, grooming and etiquette because I noticed that a lot of ladies lack these elements.
“We are going to be launching the club in high schools around Harare and will be engaging professional people in our sessions,” she said.
The 22-year -old queen walked away with a Toyota Vitz, iPad, and tuition for two semesters among other cash prizes when she was crowned in October last year at Ochi City.
