AT least 7 000 children of war veterans will converge at the ZANU PF convention centre in Gweru today for the empowerment programme of the Children of the Liberation War Veterans Association .
The programme is being spearheaded by the advisor to the President, Dr Paul Tungwarara.
Children of the Liberation War Veterans Association spokesperson Cde Lenini Samhembere confirmed that the event will see the children of war veterans receiving more than US$2 million as an empowerment revolving fund.
“We are fully prepared and 100 percent committed to hosting this historic inaugural event, which will be a landmark gathering for the children of our liberation heroes. We anticipate an overwhelming turnout, with at least 7 000 children of war veterans expected to attend, a powerful testament to the unity and legacy of our struggle,” said Cde Samhembere.
The event will see children of war veterans receiving tractors, mining equipment, trucks and other empowerment tools on credit. Children of war veterans from all 10 provinces have been invited.
The gathering is a demonstration of the Second Republic’s intention to invest in the nation’s most valuable asset, the youth.
These projects reflect the Government’s commitment to creating opportunities for the youth to engage in business and contribute to national economic growth.
Presidential Advisor Dr Tungwarara, one of the brains in charge of implementing the initiative, acknowledged the President’s efforts to create opportunities for all the children of war veterans, regardless of their location or background.
The youth are equipped to play a leading role in the country’s development, which feeds into President Mnangagwa’s vision for all places and all groups of people to develop under the mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.
Cde Samhembere commended President Mnangagwa for delivering on the promises he made.
In an interview, Mazowe district chairperson for Children of War Veterans Association, Cde Texas Muwoni, commended Dr Tungwarara for initiating the inaugural meeting for children of war veterans.
“This is a transformative step towards empowering the heirs of our liberation heroes. This initiative not only honours the sacrifices of our parents but also equips us with the tools to build our future,” Mr Muwoni said.
