MINISTER of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs, Mandi Chimene, was a bundle of emotions as she heartily thanked Prophetic Healing and Deliverance leader, Prophet Walter Magaya’s donation of 11 soccer kits that was handed over to all the provincial soccer teams taking part in this year’s edition of the Zimbabwe National Youth Games underway here in Mutare.
The 13th edition of the National Youth Games got underway on Monday after Sunday’s official opening by Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The donation which was handed over to the provincial representatives was a valuable contribution given that some teams had only one kit for the week long competitions.
Manicaland for example, had one kit that was donated by Mutare businessman, Hlanganiso Matangaidze almost a decade ago.
As if that was enough, the kit has six jerseys inscribed Number 7. Such is the magnitude of the valuable contribution that Prophet Magaya has done to provincial soccer teams!
When she rose to address the gathering, Chimene thanked the hugely popular preacher for the timely donation.
“Ndiri kunzwa kuzungaira. Munoziva kuti zvimwe zvikaitika usina fungidziro yazvo unopusa. Zvaiitika kune vanhu veZTV vachichiteera mutero wemaTV. Vaiti vakabvunza kuti une TV here woti handina kana vakapinda mumba vakaona TV waibva wapusa, handiti.
“Ndakangonyorawo tsamba ndikati pamwe anoverenga pamwe haaverengi. Ndaverenga mupepa kuti a rescuer apa azorescure apo. Inini ndanga ndaakudawo rescue. Ndakasangana naye pabirthday raAmai. Zvikanzi aiwa ndirikuzviwa.
“Ndoo mhinduro yandakangopiwa chete. Ndikati hoo. Ndikasimuka ndikaenda. Asi hana yaingorova kuti kuziwa uku kuchauya kuri papi. When I then heard of this I rejoiced in the Lord because I did not want something that will cater for Manicaland only,” said Chimene. Northern Region Division One side, Yadah Gunners goalkeepers’ coach, Zwanai Kawadza, who handed over the donation on behalf of Prophet Magaya, said the gesture was yet another demonstration of the PHD leader’s love for football.
“We really want to thank Prophet Magaya for not choosing a particular province, but did this for all provinces. He did it for all his children. Prophet Magaya has always been like that as we all know that he loves sport in general and football in particular. He has done it for the Warriors and he decided to do it again here for the National Youth Games,” he said.
Team Manicaland general manager ,James Mwonzora, whose team was the biggest beneficiary after receiving two kits, one for boys and the other one for girls, heartily thanked Prophet Magaya for the donation.
“We are really thankful to the Prophet for his donation. It will go a long way in making our job easier as well as motivate the youngsters to do better.
“Given that these days it is hard for corporates to partner football and sport in general, we are really thankful to him and the church. We sincerely hope that other stakeholders will do the same and help our youths showcase their talents,” said Mwonzora.
In the past, the PHD leader, who is bankrolling Yadah Gunners, has channelled resources to football on numerous occasions in cash or kind.
The popular preacher bailed out national teams financially so that they could fulfil their international assignments including the Cosafa-bound senior national men’s team which received a major boost ahead of the tournament in May after he donated funds to cover the team’s expenses while in South Africa.
