Chimuchenga wins Mr Botswana Ironman

GWERU-based bodybuilder Isaac “Sugar” Chimuchenga beat 10 other competitors in Gaborone to emerge as Mr Ironman Botswana at the weekend. It was an event where Zimbabweans stole the limelight by winning in all categories. Simbarashe Mhaka won the Mr Fitness Physique, while Bulawayo’s Delvin Page was the winner of the Junior Men Under-23 division and Mitchell Ajida emerged tops in the bikini fitness category.

Sugar atoned for his earlier loss to Champion Chienderamwano at this year’s Mr Ironman Zimbabwe last month. He said he was now focusing on the forthcoming Mr Zimbabwe to be held in Harare on October 17 in Harare.

Interestingly, the Botswana leg of Mr Ironman was organised by Chienderamwano, who did not take part in the contest, and the legendary Last Sithole, who is now based in Botswana.

“I’m satisfied with my performance and at least this is a consolation for me after losing the Mr Ironman Zimbabwe. I was using this competition as part of my preparations for Mr Zimbabwe,” said Chimuchenga.

“Everything being equal, I’m confident that I’m going to reclaim my crown and become the undisputed Mr Zimbabwe,” he said.

Chimuchenga and Chienderamwano have been battling for supremacy for the past two years with the latter having an edge.

Meanwhile, the National Federation of Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness spokesperson Quiet Shingai expressed satisfaction with the performance of local bodybuilders.

“The overall performance by the Zimbabwean athletes was superb. It confirms that our system is the second best in region after South Africa. It’s a good indicator of how our athletes are in the region and also exhibits our influence on the development of bodybuilding and fitness in the region,” he said.
