Prisca Chimukoko (Nzou) and Allan Musanziruma (Mbizi) came out tops in the ladies’ and men’s categories, respectively of the 3rd eddition of the Mitupo Izibongo Golf Bulawayo leg at Bulawayo Golf Club this Saturday.

Mitupo-Izibongo Golf concluded its 2024 Bulawayo edition with roaring success, bringing together golf enthusiasts and community supporters for a day of cultural exchange, fun, competition, and charity.

This Saturday, 31 golfers from all skill levels gathered at Bulawayo Golf Club to participate in the 3rd Bulawayo edition of the four-year-old Mitupo-Izibongo Golf Society , a totem-linked event dedicated to local cultures and heritage. The tournament that was played , in its 3rd year, exceeded expectations in terms of participation, excitement, and networking opportunities.

The tournament used the Stableford scoring format which is a scoring system in golf which, rather than counting the total number of strokes taken, involves scoring points based on the number of strokes taken at each hole.

The objective in Stableford, therefore, is to have the highest score – unlike traditional scoring methods.

In the ladies category, Prisca Chimukoko (Nzou) finished first with 36 points after a round of 18 holes just ahead of Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union president, Margaret Vera (Dziva) who scores 34 points and Nolwandle Sachikonye (Shumba) who finished third with 32 points.

In the men’s division, Allan Musanziruma (Mbizi) amassed 37 points to win ahead of second placed, Misheck Chinhema (Shumba) (36 points) and third placed Moonlight Funerals Services boss, Charles Makina (Mbizi) (35 points)

The tournament achieved its goal of cultural and business exchanges thanks to the generosity of sponsors, Surrey and Proton.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to our generous sponsors, whose contributions played a pivotal role in the tournament’s success. We are deeply appreciative of their continued support in making this event a reality,” said tournament organiser, Ephraim Mashingaidze.

The tournament also enjoyed extensive support from the local community. Local businesses, volunteers, and spectators contributed to the lively atmosphere and success of the golf tournament.

Surrey Group Sales and Marketing Manager, Ranganai Zihumo commented on the event’s success: “We are thrilled to see the community come together to support a great cause while enjoying a day of golf. The Mitupo-Izibongo Golf has not only raised cultural awareness, but it has also created a sense of togetherness and excitement that will linger in our hearts for years to come. We are eager to build on this success and make next year even more memorable. But more importantly, this tournament will give our young people an outlet that will keep them away from drug and substance abuse.”

Notable entrants in the Bulawayo leg of the competition include Nyaradzo Funeral Services founder and Chief Executive, Philip Mataranyika, Moonligjt Funeral Services CEO, Charles Makina, Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union president, Margaret Vera, Harare Golf Association president Blessmore Zungu and Old Mutual executive Crispen Dzingirayi.
