The strong relationship between Africa and China, built on mutual trust and cooperation, is crucial as the world transitions from unilateralism to multipolarism, China’s Counselor in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Shen Sha has said.

Mr Shen made the remarks at the ongoing African Think Tank and Media Workshop that was organised by the International Department of the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee.

“Our south-to-south cooperation is significant; we need to work hand-in-hand. Africa and China are allies holding the fate of the world,” Mr Shen said.

He said Africa and China are leading calls to reform the international financial architecture to stop global hegemonies, unilateralism, and protectionism to promote an equal and sustainable world that considers Africa an equal partner.

“China stands ready to improve Africa’s stability and is ready to promote an equal and multipolar world. Africa and China are strong forces. We want to promote reforms of the international financial system to ensure Africa’s inclusion as a partner.

“China will not change its African policy despite its development and global position, but will help African countries to resolve their challenges without interference,” Mr Shen added.

Head of the African delegation and national executive member of South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC), Ms Lindiwe Zulu, thanked China for standing with Africa.

“The fast-changing world must not disadvantage Africa, but should be modelled on a win-win basis. At this moment, African unity remains the cornerstone of all the success. We also need to have full confidence that China will see Africa as an equal partner,” Ms Zulu said.
