China voices support for Arab resolution on Syria

“The resolution demonstrated the willingness of Arab nations and the AL to resolve the Syrian issue through political means,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin made the remarks at a regular press briefing.
The resolution has a positive impact on easing the current tensions in Syria as well as expanding consensus among all parties concerned, he added.

During his two-day visit to Syria, Kofi Annan, joint envoy of the United Nations and the Arab League, met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov respectively, and put forward several proposals regarding ending the violence, allowing humanitarian aid, releasing detainees and starting an inclusive political dialogue.
When asked to comment on Annan’s proposals, Liu said China holds a positive and open attitude toward any propositions and measures that will be conducive to promoting the political resolution of the Syrian issue.

“China is willing to work with the international community including the AL to promote the just,  peaceful and proper resolution of the Syrian issue in an early date,” he said.
Liu said China supports Annan’s constructive efforts in promoting the political resolution of the Syrian crisis and hopes all related parties to co-ordinate Annan’s mediation efforts.
When asked to comment on the five-point formula agreed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the AL to resolve the Syrian crisis on Saturday, Liu said China welcomes

the international society to enhance communication and co-ordination on the Syrian issue.
“We believe that the five-point formula has a realistic and positive significance to the political resolution of the Syrian issue,” said Liu.
He called on all relevant parties of the international community to continue their efforts for the just, peaceful and appropriate resolution of the Syrian issue. — Xinhua.
