TWO Zanu-PF candidates in Makoni District have donated building materials and chicks to schools in their constituencies.
Finance and Economic Development Minister Patrick Chinamasa, who will be representing the ruling party in Makoni Central, donated building material worth $15 000 to Mabvazuva Primary School, while businessman and corporate lawyer Cde Misheck Mataranyika, who will be representing the party in Makoni South, distributed 10 000 chicks to schools in the constituency.
The building materials donated by Cde Chinamasa that comprise roofing sheets, windows and doorframes, roofing timber and cement will see the completion of the school’s administration block.
The material was handed over last Thursday, with the school head, Mr Benson Matare, describing the gesture as a giant step forward.
The school was built by Rusape Town Council at the turn of the millennium and has an enrolment of more than 1 400 pupils.
Apart from the administration block, the school has a shortage of classroom blocks and pupils have to share classes, use tents and tree shades.
Cde Chinamasa, who is also the outgoing MP for Makoni Central, said there were many advantages for a society in investing in education to those who deserved it.
He said there were few things that were more important to a society than investing in education.
“Education is a social equaliser; intelligence is not only confined to children from wealthy families, or those individuals with more money,” he said. “It cuts across the divide, and even the poorest can perform wonders through education.
“So, it is critical for parents to assist Government by investing resources to make education accessible to all children who deserve it. As a person begins to learn more and more, it can help them move ahead in the world and escape from poverty.”
Cde Chinamasa said when a person was willing to learn, it not only gave them more knowledge of the world around them but equipped them with the tools necessary to get ahead.
Meanwhile, the distribution of chicks in Makoni South began last Saturday at Chakuma, Kadzunge, Quagga Kloof and Gurure primary schools.
Each school received 100 birds, vaccines and feed.
The projects would be monitored to ensure the funds are re- invested towards expansion of the projects.
Chikobvore, Sharara, Nyamidza and Chitenderano primary schools would get their allocation this week.
Cde Mataranyika is also focusing on pressing needs revolving around infrastructural development with emphasis on roads, boreholes, dip tanks, dams, clinics and schools.
He also availed diesel to Makoni Rural District Council for the rehabilitation of all gravel roads in the constituency.
Makoni RDC roads expert Engineer Edmore Chidembo confirmed receiving Cde Mataranyika’s donation, adding that so far they had completed the rehabilitation of the Mukamba-Matanhire Road.
Cde Mataranyika said the rights of rural communities should be fully recognised by improving their quality of life, standard of living and full participation in political processes.
