Chinani out to delay Ngezi’s party

SIMBA BHORA keeper, Simba Chinani, is determined to increase his clean sheet tally, even if it means delaying Ngezi Platinum Stars’ championship celebrations, when the two sides clash in a decisive Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Baobab this afternoon.

The 28-year-old former Warriors goalkeeper has kept 13 clean sheets so far and is targeting to reach at least 15 in the last three rounds of the season.

That target is motivating him ahead of today’s highly anticipated match between Simba Bhora and Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Madamburo, who are on 60 points and seven clear of second placed Manica Diamonds, will clinch their first ever league championship if they win against Simba Bhora but a loss might delay the party by some days.

Ngezi can also lift the title with a draw, should Manica Diamonds fail to get maximum points against Cranborne Bullets at the National Sports today.

Henceforth, the Mhondoro side are likely to come out guns blazing this afternoon as they would want to wrap the title against a team that is now coached by their former employee Tonderai Ndiraya.

But Chinani, who gained valuable experience when he turned out for giants Dynamos and CAPS United before joining Simba Bhora, has his own motivation and target, which might spoil the intended Saturday party for Ngezi Platinum Stars.

With 39 points and five above the drop zone, Simba Bhora are still not safe from relegation and will certainly not be pushovers in this contest.

“We are still not safe and therefore we need to take each and every game seriously,” Chinani said.

“I have kept a number of clean sheets but I am still motivated to register more starting with the game against Ngezi Platinum Stars,” he said.

Simba Bhora had a forgettable first half of the season in which they flirted with relegation but Ndiraya’s boys have picked up some crucial points in the second stanza.

Chinani also feels he could have done more to register more clean sheets.

“I can’t really say I was impressed with my season. I feel I could have done better but such is football, there are ups and downs,” said the goalkeeper.
