Chindunduma High 1 has received a boost from Government after receiving 18 tonnes of maize and other food stuffs and pledges to help rebuild the kitchen destroyed by fire a week ago.
The school lost kitchen equipment and property worth close to US$200 000 to the fire caused by an electric fault in the early morning of Thursday last week.
Schools under the Zimbabwe Foundation for Education with Production (Zimfep) showed overwhelming support and love to Chindunduma High 1 donating in any way they can.
Minister in the Office of the President, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs in charge of Implementation and Monitoring of Government programmes, Dr Joram Gumbo, visited the school yesterday.
Minister Gumbo, who is also Zanu-PF secretary for education, said President Mnangagwa was saddened by the fire, especially at a time when learners were sitting for their examination.
He urged all schools to have insurance policies for their properties in cases of disaster.
“I toured the destroyed kitchen and I am thankful to God that the fire did not spread to dormitories and no lives were lost,” he said. “We will assist you in any way possible as soon as possible before the rainy season. The President’s vision is to have a middle income society by 2030.
“The youths are the future of this country and we will try by all means to assist you because each place and country is built by its own people.”
Minister Gumbo thanked Chindunduma 2 High, Chindunduma Primary, Mupfure College in Chegutu, Nkululeko High School in Midlands, Mavhudzi High School and Rusununguko for their support and donations.
The Minister said he liaised with the Local Government and Public Works to avail the plan for the kitchen for that re-construction work starts.
“You will not shoulder this misfortune alone but the whole Zimfep family and the country,” he said.
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Senator Monica Mavhunga thanked ZIMFEP family for the love and support they gave to Chindunduma High 1.
Minister Mavhunga is the deputy secretary for education in the Zanu PF Politburo.
“The Government through the civil protection unit has availed 18 tonnes of maize. The Government also pledged to re-construct the kitchen,” she said.
“I wish learners success in their exams. You are the future leaders. Utilise this opportunity for education.”
Zimfep director Cde Gideon Chiukira expressed his appreciation to President Mnangagwa and the Zimfep family for their support.
“The President sent the secretary and his deputy to give us moral support. Zimbabweans have one love and this gesture proves that the country is built by its owners,” he said.
“The learners and staff members were downtrodden by the fire incident but now the country is sharing our burden.
“We are so happy that we received lots of foodstuffs from the Zimfep family. We were promised that the kitchen will be built back, we are humbled.”
