A CHINESE business foundation has donated an assortment of goods that included blankets and food to a Mutare children’s home.
Hunan Businessmen Foundation of Zimbabwe last Saturday donated blankets, food, mattresses and many other items to Forward in Faith (FIF), ZAOGA Children’s Home.
Chairperson of the foundation, Mr Yong Li said: “We are paying back to the community through this donation. These children are also our children and we are here to help. We are also here to help with donations to the less fortunate.
“We do not live in a perfect world and there is never going to be a perfect time to give but there are always people out there in need of help. Whether interest rates are rising, the economy is in the doldrums, or even if you are experiencing financial difficulties of your own, the reality is that when you donate you help others who are in need.”
Mr Li declined to reveal the monetary value of the donation.
The foundation was named after the Chinese province.
It was formed two years ago to attract investment in Zimbabwe.
A representative of the children’s home Mrs Judith Tsorai thanked the foundation for the donation.
“We are very grateful that the donation has fulfilled our objective of moulding a complete and a total child who is socially, morally, spiritually and psychologically acceptable in any family set up,” she said.
She said the home was built in 1980 through the vision of Professor Ezekiel Handinawangu Guti and his wife Doctor Eunor Guti, who took care of the less-privileged children in their home.
“The home has 16 children at the moment who comprise five boys and 11 girls. Children are discharged from the home when they reach the age of 18, which is in line with the Children’s Act of our constitution,” said Mrs Tsorai.
She said the home was running a chicken rearing project.
“Thieves are always breaking into the premises to steal chicken when they are ready for the market, which draws us back.”
