The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe has donated a consignment of basic necessities to Hossana Love in Africa, a school and orphanage in Hatcliffe, as part of its ongoing efforts to support the less privileged in the country.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Lyu Renhong, wife of Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding, said the donation was another testament to their commitment to driving the country’s development.
“Today, we gather again, not only to commemorate this occasion but also to reaffirm our shared commitment to children’s well-being,” she said.

” It is my privilege to present these humble donations on behalf of the Chinese Embassy and community, symbolizing our enduring friendship and solidarity with Zimbabwe’s future: its children.”
The Chinese embassy and the Chinese community in Zimbabwe started to make donations to the children’s home in 2016 and since then, they have been offering support to the orphanage.
“The Chinese Embassy and our vibrant community in Zimbabwe have always held a profound belief: Leave no one and no place behind.

“This principle guides our efforts to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Zimbabwean people, particularly our young friends. Over the years, we have collaborated to build schools to nurture dreams, clinics to safeguard health, boreholes to quench thirst, and roads to connect opportunities.
“These projects are not mere infrastructure-they are bridges of hope, ensuring that every child, family, and community can thrive with dignity.”
Madame Lyu urged the children at the orphanage to remain steadfast in their faith, sharing that she had faced comparable challenges during her time in China.

“Dear boys and girls, I know life has not always been gentle with you. I understand because I have walked a similar path. Today, I am reminded of my humble beginnings in a small town in China, about 800 kilometers from Beijing.
“Growing up in a family of three siblings, I felt the weight of poverty and scarcity. Yet, my parents’ love and guidance instilled in me the determination to change my circumstances through my persistent efforts to make the best of education opportunities.”
She also drew parallels between China’s past struggles with poverty and Zimbabwe’s current challenges, highlighting China’s journey towards eradicating absolute poverty.

“Today, as the world’s second-largest economy and a country that has eradicated absolute poverty, we stand as living proof that no challenge is insurmountable. Zimbabwe, too, is a land of extraordinary beauty, resilience, and untapped potential.”
