Chingono in first win

member beat the challenge of several other women golfers in the Championship Division in the two-day event.

Chingono managed to card 84 and 81 on her way to claim the win, a second straight victory, after she won the final event of last season — the Manicaland Strokeplay.

Chingono was happy with her performance and said she will continue to work hard.
“I feel great to win the event and it comes with a lot of competition, which is healthy for us as players,” Chingono said.

“The challenge was tricky, as it was the season-opener, and everyone was looking forward to it so I just went out and did what I could and it paid off.

“I kept my cool in the second round and it paid off. I was trailing by four shots going into the final round.

“The course played so well and it was competitive.”
Batsirai Tilowakuti of Borrowdale Brooke finished second after a bad second round.
Tilowakuti, who was the defending champion, carded 80 and 87.

The former champion had a good four strokes cushion going into the final round but her lead was overhauled by the in-form Chingono.

Aulia Alfazema of Bulawayo settled for a third place, having led the eventual winner at one point by a stroke.

The event had three groups namely Championship, A, B, and C divisions.
Audrey Kamalizeni of Wingate won in the A Division while Chitakatira won the B Division and Stella Dhlakama of Police won the C Division.
More than 40 players took part.
