TWO suspected cattle rustlers have been arrested.
Osborne Mbiri (35) and Norman Mkhuli (43), both from Chinhoyi, were nabbed for stock theft on Thursday.
Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, told H-Metro, the two are suspected of stealing a beast from a farm near Chinhoyi and slaughtering it.
Insp Kohwera said Mbiri and Mkhuli allegedly hid the meat in a bush at the Golden Kopje turn-off.
He said detectives received a tip-off from members of the public and arrested the two suspects at Pfungwadzakanaka Shopping Centre in Chinhoyi.
“The suspects were interviewed and led the police to the Golden Kopje turn-off where they had hidden the carcass,” said Insp Kohwera.
“The meat was recovered.”
He said investigations established that the beast belonged to Kumbirai Mugota of Plot 27 Natalia Farm in Chinhoyi and it was stolen from a kraal during the night.
Insp Kohwera said police in the province were concerned with the number of stock theft cases being committed throughout the province.
“We urge farmers to periodically check their stock throughout the night and, in case of theft, they can quickly notice it and report early,” said Insp Kohwera.
He saluted members of the public for assisting police with information on criminal activities taking place in their communities.
