PROMINENT Chinhoyi farmer Daniel Brink Bosman and his alleged accomplice, Douglas Zhanero, have been indicted for murder and are set to stand trial before the High Court sitting at Chinhoyi in October.
The two are facing allegations of murdering juvenile Suarance Moffat at Omerstone Farm in Lion’s Den on May 21, 2022. According to the indictment, the trial has been set for October 27 and 28, 2026.
The State alleges that Bosman and Zhanero, acting in concert or with a common purpose, unlawfully caused Suarance’s death by running him over with a combine harvester.
The prosecution further alleges that the accused either intended to kill Suarance or realised there was a real risk or possibility that their conduct could cause his death but continued with the conduct.
The indictment charges the two under section 47(1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23].
Bosman is cited in the indictment as residing in Chinhoyi, while Zhanero is listed as residing at Dundrennam Farm in Lion’s Den.
The murder charge follows an earlier case in which Zhanero was prosecuted over the death.
According to court papers, Zhanero had initially faced a culpable homicide charge in connection with the incident but was discharged in 2024 after the State case.
The deceased’s family had disputed the original account that the boy had been run over by a tractor.
