THE Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) is currently investigating a team responsible for recruiting student nurses at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital amid allegations of corruption.
Those under probe are the medical superintendent, Dr Collet Mawire and tutor staff who have been fingered for receiving bribes and communicating with applicants before interviews and shortlisting.
This, ZACC alleges, indicates that the shortlisting and interviewing process was not fair.
A ZACC official who requested anonymity confirmed the investigation, adding that some of the accused’s phones were confiscated on Thursday.
“Some of the staff’s cellphones were seized yesterday. Upon searching them, there were indications that they were actually sending questions of interview before interviews, showing favour to other applicants, disfavouring other applicants,” said the officer.
Aspiring nurses are alleged to have parted ways with over US$1 200 to secure positions.
