IAN Bakala is a happy man after CAPS United edged Highlanders in the Battle of Cities at Rufaro yesterday – their second big scalp in three weeks after their sensational win over Scottland.
Nyasha Chintuli’s thunderbolt made the difference.
“It was a big win for the club and I’m glad the boys won this match for me because Highlanders have always given me problems.
“I spoke to Chintuli before the match and I asked him what is taking him long to get goals for us and he promised that he was going to get us the winner against Highlanders and he delivered on his promise.”
The Green Machine won without one of their most influential players this season, midfielder Kundai Benyu.
“Kundai Benyu is still recovering from flu and soon he will be with the squad,” said Bakala.
Chintuli fired in a thunderbolt from close range to see off the visitors.
It was his first goal for the club at Rufaro.
And it was probably Try Ncube’s last game in charge of Bosso as he is now expected to hand over the hot seat to Dutchman Pieter De Jong who watched the game with the Bosso leadership.
Makepekepe’s victory put them level with Bosso on 28 points in 23 games.
It was sweet revenge for Makepekepe who lost by a similar scoreline in the reverse fixture at Barbourfields. The match was played before a party crowd who came to witness the heavyweight clash.
Tanaka Shandirwa ran the show in the centre of the park as he flexed his muscles and displayed his passion for the badge.
The absence of Bosso skipper Andrew Mbeba was felt as the visitors looked shaky in defence for the better part of the game.
CAPS United defender, Brian Kadamanja, produced a man-of-the- match performance as he pocketed Bosso’s tricky forward Mafious Chihweta.
It was possibly Chihweta’s last match for Bosso as he is expected to be unveiled at Scottland.
Bosso fans had pinned their hopes on Chihweta who had scored their last three goals prior to this match. But Kadamanja was resolute as he kept the wing wizard in check.
The two sides kept missing chances until Phineas Bamusi released Chintuli with only Bosso’s keeper, Reward Muza, in his sights.
Chintuli fired home a thunderbolt to settle the match. In straight against the advancing Muza who watched helplessly.
Ncube attributed the loss to a lack of confidence among his troops.
“The boys’s confidence levels are down a bit and they need to be psyched up,” said Ncube.
“That is the only way out and we also need to convert our chances. It is something that we have been addressing, doing a lot of attacking drills at training to help the situation.
“The club is working on something big and this includes the coming of players who might help us get the goals.”
