AFTER successfully appointing Stanford “Stix” Mutizwa as their head coach towards the end of the season and finishing the race strongly, Premiership football side Black Rhinos will today honour some of their outstanding players.
The army side finished the season on a high after they were transformed into Premiership contenders in the last few matches when former national team player Mutizwa took over the reins.
Chauya Chipembere, who parted ways with Dynamos bound Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa, will see several players vying for top accolades at a ceremony to be held in Harare this afternoon. Maruwa was in charge of Black Rhinos for five years. Soccer Star of the Year contender Elli Ilunga, who scored some specular goals in the just-ended season, will be in the race for the top gong so will be seasoned defender Dennis Dauda, Peace Makaha and Allan Gahadzikwa.
Rhinos players were consistent, especially at their adopted home of Vengere in Rusape where they also did well in the Chibuku Super Cup by knocking out CAPS United on their way to the quarter-finals.
Blessing Mwandimutsira is likely to bag the goalkeeper of the year award with Illunga, who bagged 11 goals, also in the contention for top goal scorer accolade .
Black Rhinos secretary general, Edward Mutukwa, confirmed the developments and said they are looking forward to honour some of their outstanding players this afternoon.
“As Black Rhinos we have organised an end of the year prize giving ceremony for our team which is under the Zimbabwe National Army,” stated Mutukwa.
