WARRIORS’ defender Eric Chipeta who plays for South African Absa Premiership side Chippa United, has alleged that the delay in receiving a work permit jeopardised his chances of cementing a place in the heart of his team’s defence.
United were promoted to the PSL this season after they were relegated two seasons ago. They signed the former Hwange player hoping that he would plug leakages in defence. The former Hwange defender only received his permit three weeks ago.
He was forced to train with the team’s reserve side which is playing in the Multichoice Diski Challenge.
Chipeta has played two games for the ‘B’ team. In the two games he played they lost 0-2 to Mamelodi Sundowns and thrashed AmaZulu 4-1 last weekend.
At Chippa he is being played as a centreback, a position which he is also familiar with.
Chipeta said: “I’m enjoying now that I’m getting game time, everybody in the team has been supportive and the coach Rodger Skhakhane told me to be patient and keep on working hard.” He praised the quality in the Absa Premiership.
“The Absa Premiership has quality players than back home and as such the competition is very stiff.”
Chipeta advised his countrymen to keep on working hard as he believes it is not easy to play football in a foreign country.
Former Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari played for the team two seasons ago and Wilfred “Silver Fox” Mugeyi, a former Warriors striker, was the team’s assistant coach.
