SOUNDS of the Motherland band leader, Progress Chipfumo is set for an emotional return at Sun City Bar popularly known as Bako in the sprawling suburb of Sakubva after spending close to five months without performing in Mutare. The potentially intriguing show slated for today (Friday will be one of the big things ever to happen at the spacious bar that is synonymous with Zim-dancehall music.

Apart from Somandla Ndebele, Juicer Mpostori and Sulumani Chimbetu, the venue has so far hosted an avalanche of dancehall crooners – both seasoned and upcoming.
The bar proprietor and show promoter, Given Shumba, said the rejuvenated entertainment place would in the near future hosts other circular musicians apart from dancehall in a bid to lure more patrons and of different age groups.

“It is our pleasure to host one of the most talented and consistent yet underrated artistes in Zimbabwe. Although we noticed that most of our patrons are obsessed to Zim-dancehall music, we would like to bring in some artistes from other genres to spice up our entertainment spot and rope in more patrons. Hosting Progress Chipfumo is one of our achievements since our rebranding and we strongly believe that fans will come in numbers to celebrate the talented guitarist and vocalist,” said Shumba.
He added that the show starts at 8pm. Chipfumo will be supported by resident wheel spinner, DJ Jimmz.

The dreadlocked musician who is currently riding high with his latest album, Hold my hand has been in the music industry for more than two decades and his evergreen history and traceable boulevard to glory dates back to the late 90s where he partnered Portia Gwanzura in the Hohodza Band project.

The two separated after irreconcilable differences.
Although Hohodza Band is still existent in the United Kingdom, it has never been the same after the then lead vocalist and gifted composer, Chipfumo jumped ship to launch his own life with Sounds of the Motherland.
