CHIRAGWI’S CAPS DEAL COLLAPSES AT THE FINAL HURDLE

Sports Reporter

A LAST-MINUTE glitch on Wednesday night derailed Takesure Chiragwi’s move to join CAPS United as the club’s new head coach.

Chiragwi agreed terms with the Green Machine at the weekend to replace Lloyd Chitembwe and CAPS United officials had already identified a double-cab truck which was set to be given to the coach.

All that remained was for Chiragwi to end his relationship with his employers, Ngezi Platinum Stars, which was expected to be completed on Wednesday.

Chiragwi’s contract with Ngezi expires at the end of this year.

However, there were reports that he could use a get-out clause in his contract to leave and join CAPS United.

A meeting was held at Ngezi on Wednesday, which was confirmed by the club chairman Leonard Musariri, who described the Chiragwi bombshell as the “the biggest issue right now.”

Sources said that meeting ended any hopes for the coach to complete his move to the Green Machine.

“They say it’s never over until the fat lady sings and this was the case with Deco as Ngezi flexed their muscles and blocked the coach from leaving to join CAPS.”

The Green Machine had arranged a media conference, which had been set for yesterday, where they were scheduled to announce the arrival of Chiragwi.

However, that media conference was not held after it emerged that Chiragwi would remain with Ngezi.

CAPS United were forced to elevate Ian Bakala, who had been engaged as assistant coach, to become the head coach with Alex Sigion coming in as his assistant.

Ironically, Sigion was an assistant coach at Ngezi before he left to coach in Eswatini.
