Chiredzi preschool owner faces murder charges after two girls suffocate in boot

George Maponga in Masvingo

Police in Chiredzi has arrested a pre-school owner on murder charges after two juveniles suffocated in her Honda Fit vehicle boot where she had apparently forgotten them.

Zhuwakina Javangwe (53) took the now deceased two girls from their homes together with two other boys and sat them in the boot but forgot to retrieve them upon arrival at her pre-school yesterday morning.

When she went to clean her vehicle around 10.30 am she then remembered that she had left the children in her vehicle boot.

Unfortunately, when she finally opened the boot Lynet Musungatu (4) and Celine Shiri (3) had already suffocated.

The two boys who were also in the boot managed to find their way out of the boot and survived.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said the pre-school owner had been charged with murder and will appear in court soon.

Investigations have established that the two girls suffocated as Javangwe had closed all the windows since it was raining on the fateful day.

The tragic incident has plunged Chiredzi town into mourning.
