NGEZI Platinum Stars are determined to retain the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title despite a slow start to the 2024 season.

Ngezi Platinum Stars currently sit in sixth position with 21 points from 14 matches.

The defending champions are eight points behind log leaders and last year’s runners-up, Manica Diamonds, and have endured a slow start to their season.

“After a slow start to the season, we are grateful to the team for working tirelessly to address our shortcomings,” said the club vice-president (technical), Lysias Chiwozva

The Ngezi Platinum Stars board member believes that three consecutive wins that have been recorded signal a change of fortunes for the 2023 champions and will build on the momentum in their quest to defend the league title.

“We have seen significant improvements as shown by winning the last three matches before this three-week international break.

“We are eager to build on this momentum and continue our upward trajectory when the league games resume.

“Our goal remains to defend our title,” said the Ngezi Platinum Stars, vice-president of technical.

Ngezi Platinum Stars’ confidence in winning the title have been boosted by the coming in of Obriel Chirinda, who was early this week cleared by the Zifa Player status committee to join the team after a contractual dispute involving Dynamos.

The Zifa Player Status Committee ordered the Premier Soccer League to register Chirinda, and the former Bulawayo Chiefs striker received his license to play for the platinum miners on Tuesday.

“As Ngezi Platinum Stars FC, we are pleased to have the matter over Obriel Chirinda resolved in our favour and are fully focused on the rest of the season.

“We’re thrilled to have him as part of our squad and, naturally, we stood by him during this difficult time,” said Chiwozva.
