Chirinda regrets Bosso match red card

BULAWAYO Chiefs forward, Obriel Chirinda regrets the day he received a red- card when they beat Highlanders in the quarter finals of the Chibuku Super Cup.

That red-card means he will not play in the final that is scheduled for Barbourfields Stadium on November 19.

Chirinda was shown two yellow cards and could have avoided the second one which emanated from some pushing and shoving with Highlanders players towards the end of that game. The forward also had his penalty kick saved by Highlanders captain Ariel Sibanda in the encounter Chiefs won 1-0.

“It’s painful, l regret it as a player but l believe my teammates will represent the team well and make sure we win the final,” said Chirinda.

Chiefs and Herentals needed penalty shootouts to qualify for the final, with the former winning the first semi-final match 5-4 against Black Rhinos after the game had ended 0-0.

Herentals then went on to get an injury time equaliser as they went on to dump defending champions FC Platinum out of the competition. The Students eventually triumphed 4-3 on penalties.

FC Platinum won last year’s Chibuku Super Cup with a 5-3 on penalties win over Ngezi Platinum Stars when the match had concluded 0-0 after extra time at Mandava.

The Chibuku Super Cup is sponsored to the tune of US$375 000 by Delta Beverages. Winners will pocket US$75 000 and runners up will take home US$50 000, with the funds paid out at the prevailing auction rate. — Follow on Twitter @innocentskizoe
