Chirinda talks down transfer talk

BULAWAYO Chiefs FC forward Obriel Chirinda (pictured) says he is not focusing on rumours linking him with a move away from Bulawayo Chiefs FC but rather improving his game after scoring a brace against CAPS United at the weekend.

Two goals from Chirinda ensured Amakhosi Amahle got three points from Makepekepe in a highly contested encounter which saw CAPS United score one goal in consolation.

Chirinda’s brace came at a time when the forward is linked with a move away from Chiefs with Highlanders said to be amongst the striker’s top suitors.

“Obviously, l am glad to have got the brace. It’s a big achievement for me, “said Chirinda.

Asked on his thoughts on reports linking him with a move away from Chiefs, Chirinda said all his focus is on delivering for Bulawayo Chiefs.

Chirinda has been linked with a move to Highlanders who are said to have made their second consultation about the player this year alone.

Bosso tried to lure Chirinda at the beginning of the season but failed in their attempts upon realising the player had a running contract with Chiefs. Chirinda signed a three year contract when he joined Chiefs last year.

In this mid-season window, Bosso are again said to be chasing Chirinda’s signature.

Amakhosi Amahle are believed to be in a position to let the striker go if they get a meaningful offer. The Bosso technical team is believed to have submitted Chirinda’s name in their transefer wish list which also includes securing a winger.

Chirinda says he is not worried about what is being reported on his future.

“I am a Chiefs player and that is the situation as things stand. I am not worried about what is said in the transfer news rumours but rather improving my game. For now l am a Chiefs player and that is where all my attention is at,” said Chirinda.

At some point Chirinda was a goalkeeper while playing for the juniors, but because of his height disadvantage, his development coaches encouraged him to play infield.

As a primary school pupil at Mahlathini in Cowdray Park, Chirinda played for a local team before moving to Highlanders’ Under-13s in 2007 where he linked up with present Bosso player Godfrey Makaruse, Chicken Inn’s central defender Itai Mabhunu and goalkeeper Wandile Ndlovu.

Chirinda also played for EM Sport Academy where he trained under Field “Stokee” Mlambo from Under-15s up to Division Three.

He has also played for Chicken Inn in the top-flight. The Gamecocks are said to be keen on his services too.
