CLUBS in the Zifa Midlands Division Two leagues are crying foul over what they term “empty promises” following reports that the provincial football board chairman, Brian Chishanga is yet to fulfil pledges he made before he was retained in February.Chishanga, the longest serving Zifa councillor beat Solomon Nyathi by 12 votes to five.
Clubs have accused the veteran football administrator of not fulfilling most of his promises among them paying half of the $600 affiliation fees to the provincial league’s affiliates.
Chishanga also promised to secure sponsorship for the nine-team Division 2A and 11-member Division 2B leagues but nothing has materialised yet the league is past the half year mark.
A club official who spoke on condition of anonymity accused Chishanga of taking clubs for granted and called on the provincial football leadership to convene a meeting so that the provincial chairman could explain himself.
“There have been many promises from Chishanga but none have materialised. It is high time we look for serious football administrators than these dubious characters who take us for granted.
“He promised us sponsorship and we took part in the league with the hope that this would cushion us from some of the expenses but we are now in dire straits. It’s time the league convenes a meeting on the way forward before things get out of hand,” said an administrator from a Kwekwe club.
Chishanga confirmed that he was yet to meet part of the bargain.
He said: “Of course it’s true that I am still to settle the balance for affiliation fees but clubs should not be worried because those are administrative issues. The affiliation fees will be settled soon and clubs should not make noise about it.
“As for the sponsorship, our potential sponsor had challenges and he said he will come back to us. He has since promised to avail some funding before the season ends.”
