RENOWNED Bulawayo pool player Priscilla “Vari” Chisoro is feeling on top of the world after she was crowned the 2023 Bulawayo Pool Association (BPA) Best Female Player.
The seasoned billiards player that has in the past few years conquered at the Carling Black Label National Pool Championship, where she has continued to rule the roost.
“It’s always an honour to be recognised. I’m happy for the achievement as a long time pool player. I am looking forward to more achievements. Special mention goes to the Bulawayo Pool family. I’m looking forward to the forthcoming 2024 season,” said an ecstatic Chisoro in an interview from Zambia.
Stanley Ngwenya of Palace Pool Club was named as the best BPA Male Player while his teammate Lindani Gumbo was selected as the BPA Overall Best Player.
According to BPA secretary-general Nomore Muzvidziwa the BPA Cup final and awards ceremony that were held at Queens Sports Club marked the end of the 2023 pool season.
“On behalf of the BPA executive, I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to all the clubs, players, sponsors and fans whose immense contribution gave birth to yet another successful season. May you carry the same spirit into the coming 2024 season and beyond. Thank you all,” said Muzvidziwa in a statement.
He added they were grateful that there was a lot of competition in both BPA Premier and Division One District Leagues. “A lot of competition was witnessed throughout the season. We witnessed some exciting pool season mixed with surprises, upsets and the obvious. At the end of it all, the mighty Palace Pool Club proved too hot to handle and were eventually crowned 2023 champions followed by the evergreen Entumbane Pool Club.
“At the tail end was Ace Basement Pool Club who found life in the topflight league too difficult for them hence the decision to retreat to the district league come the 2024 season.
“Ace Basement Pool Club will be accompanied by Queens Legends, ZRP Central Professionals and Skittle Inn. We say farewell to the relegated teams and hope to see you back in the shortest time possible,” he said.
Muzvidziwa said: “Skittle Inn B and Delta Pool Club gained promotion to the provincial Premier League from the Central Business District while Mzilikazi District weaned Pumula South Classics and Khami Prisons. We welcome all the new teams to the big boys league and wish them a long stay.”
BPA Premier League champions Palace Pool Club went home with prizemoney of US$1 200 while Entumbane Pool Club got US$700.
Queens Pool Club were the runners-up while Nkulumane Police Camp came out in position four.
The BPA Premier and Division League competitions are expected to start in March 2024. — @FungaiMuderere
