CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe doesn’t believe history will play any part in the Harare Derby at Rufaro on Sunday. The Green Machine last beat their fierce rivals, Dynamos, in a league match, at the same stadium in 2009 when Chitembwe was in charge of CAPS United.
“It is good for confidence, going into the match knowing that out there people respect you for your past achievements,” said Chitembwe.
“But history is for the archives and I am sure what’s more important is for us to play the same way we have been preparing.
“We are looking at breaking the jinx. I am sure we have what it takes to break the jinx because when we look at our team I personally believe that we have quality that we want for us to win games.
“It is always good to have someone who believes in you. I have no doubt that Mr (Farai) Jere (CAPS president) does believe in me.
“I am still waiting for a day that I will repay his confidence and I am sure this will be an opportunity for me to do that.”
The gaffer has had to contend with misfiring forwards.
“Scoring is a process. You cannot work on it over a period of two, three days and we hope to do well. There are certain technical aspects that one really need to look at.
“I am sure going into this match, if those chances come, I am sure they will be composed enough to convert those chances. “This game is a very important game, important in so many ways, this is one fixture that obviously draws a lot of interest from the generality of the population.
“I expect a very good game.”
CAPS United are enjoying a clean bill of health with veteran forward, Leonard Tsipa, the only player carrying a knock but he is expected to pass a late fitness test.
