OLD HARARIANS’ winger Tafadzwa “MaRubber” Chitokwindo has shouldered the blame for his sides 34-36 loss to rivals Old Georgians Sports Club in National Rugby League encounter over the weekend.
The former Zimbabwe Under-20 speedster feels he did not come to the party as was expected and believes this could be the reason the Old Boys conceded their first defeat of the season to a side they beat in last year’s final.
However, Chitokwindo was playing fullback on the day, the first time he has played this position but to him that is no excuse.
“I think I could have done better on Saturday to give our side a win over Old Georgians but I did not play as good as I could have, I did not do as much as I should have done during the game.
“I made a couple of mistakes and it was just not my day and that saw us losing the game. It was my first time playing at fullback but that is no excuse because all the same I did not perform as well as was expected,” said Chitokwindo who is also the Cheetahs winger.
Old Hararians coach Cyprain “Supa” Mandege said their loss had nothing to do with individuals making a mistake. We were punished as a team due to our mistakes. I can’t say there is a specific individual or department that is to blame but we made mistakes as a team, conceded a number of avoidable penalties.
“But I feel that the Old Georgians side wanted it more and that is why they capitalised on the mistakes we made, we are going to have another big game at the weekend and after last Saturday’s game I asked my players to go and have an introspection.
“There were quite a number of negatives and there were a lot of positives so I believe it is about taking the positives and working hard to make sure we eliminate the negatives we had last weekend,” said Mandenge.
Chitokwindo, like his coach, feels Old Georgians took advantage of the Old Boys mistakes.
“That is what this game is all about, if you do not capitalise on your opponents mistakes then you might not win. “Given that we are going to play Sports Club this weekend I feel that there are some areas of play we have to polish up. “We were good at scrimmaging against Old Georgians, our set pieces were okay and the backline was not that bad,” said Chitokwindo.
