Chitungwiza has mourned Zanu PF ward 20 Councillor Innocent Jenje, (pictured) describing his death as a loss of a dedicated youthful leader who was a champion against drug abuse.

Cllr Jenje died on Sunday morning due to a suspected headache.

In its condolence message, Chitungwiza Municipality said the town had lost “a young dedicated Cllr keen to see an improvement in service delivery”.

Chitungwiza Deputy Mayor, Kiven Mutimbanyoka, said the deceased suffered a headache. Ward 3 councillor and the deceased’s friend, Cllr John Matiyenga, said the town has lost a great leader.

“He was like a blood brother to me. He was a listening young man who was so inspirational to fellow councillors.

“For me the bond had grown beyond the work spaces as our families were now connected,” he said.

Chitungwiza Progressive Residents’ Association secretary-general, Mr Gift Kurupati, said the late Cllr was development-oriented.

“He was very passionate about youth programmes and fighting against drug abuse in Chitungwiza. He did his work diligently and helped so many people in his ward regardless of their political affiliation.

“He always spoke about unity of purpose when it came to the issues of service delivery. We, as Chitungwiza community have been robbed by the death of a very young and energetic leader,” he said.

Chitungwiza and Manyame Rural Residents’ Association acting director, Mr Brighton Kanyama, said Cllr Jenje was a champion for development.

“It is sad to lose such a young man who had energy to fight Chitungwiza service delivery woes. Cllr Jenje had an open door policy regardless of political affiliation,” he said.
