Chitungwiza clinics to get pharmacies

THE United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has partnered Chitungwiza Municipality to build pharmacies at polyclinics in the town to ease supply of medicines. So far, two pharmacies will be built in Zengeza and Seke South.

Chitungwiza Municipality acting director of health services Mr Herbert Chirowodza confirmed the development while presenting a monthly report on health during a council meeting on Thursday last week. Mr Chirowodza notified the commission that UNDP wanted to help them have drug stores in their clinics.

“UNDP came and they confirmed that they are going to construct two pharmacy stores, one at Zengeza Clinic and another at Seke South Clinic,” he said.
“It is a project that was initiated some time back, so they came to hand over the sites to the contractors. In terms of completion, they were talking of two to three months and the contractors were supposed to be on the ground by December 1 according to the contract.”

Chairperson of the caretaker commission running the affairs of Chitungwiza Mr Madzudzo Pawadyira demanded to know if this was the reason why director for health services Dr Tonderai Kasu had requested council to hire pharmacists.

Mr Chirowodza responded: “I think Mr Chairman, what we have is that you have a unit specialised in that field and as the head of the team, he must have certain qualifications. If you start having technicians without these, you tend to have a challenge.”
