Chitungwiza to recruit 17 nurses

Chitungwiza Health City Department is set to recruit 17 nurses as it moves to ease the shortage of staff. The town is operating with 70 nurses, instead of 120. Director of Health and Environmental Services Dr Tonderai Kasu said: “Chitungwiza has always been short-staffed in terms of nurses, sometime last year we got a ministerial approval from the Ministry of Local Government to recruit 32 nurses.

“We conducted interviews and a lot of the nurses failed interviews and only 20 passed, leaving us with a deficit of 12. Although we had those 20 to start working, in the interim we then had some resignations. If we look into the deficit, plus the ones who resigned, it leaves a total of 17. We are now embarking on that process of recruiting to make up the numbers of what we requested.” Dr Kasu said they had since closed the applications.

“We advertised for the posts and we have since closed,” he said. “What is left now for us is to complete shortlisting and call for interviews soon. We received more than 100 applications and those to be recruited will be placed in maternity, midwives, family health services, community nurse and immunisation.” Dr Kasu said even after the recruitment, there was still need for more nurses in the town.
