Chitungwiza to repossess 194 stands

Lovemore Meya Herald Reporter
Chitungwiza Municipality is set to repossess 194 residential stands at Nyatsime Housing Scheme after it emerged that some individuals misrepresented to council that they were registered as companies so that they could acquire more stands.
The policy is one family one stand.
This anomaly was discovered when council was processing applications to allocate residential stands in Nyatsime.

As a result, Chitungwiza Town Clerk Mr George Makunde, has given them a 30-day ultimatum to issue council with documents verifying that they were registered companies.
“We have discovered an anomaly when we were processing papers for allocation of residential stands in Nyatsime housing scheme. These people bought the stands from council after misrepresenting that they were registered companies,” said Mr Makunde.

This was done during the time council was desperate for money and had thus not done a thorough scrutiny of applicants.
He said in some instances an individual had as many as 60 stands after misrepresenting their status.

“One person buys a single stand. These people went on to apply for more stands and when we went to verify with the registrar of companies to see whether they were registered (we established that) they were not.

Mr Makunde said the move was meant to instil discipline in the dormitory town.
He said so far they managed to pick out nine companies that fraudulently got the stands.

“The only problem we have is that the registrar of companies’ manpower is dwindled because as we speak their certificates should have been cancelled. We are going to write to them so that they can amend their papers,” said Mr Makunde.

Some of the stands that were discovered during the processing include Mulemo (Pvt) Ltd stand numbers 3585 to 3594 with 10 stands, upset engineering stand numbers from 12117 to 12874-81 with a total of 44 stands.

Touchman Investments has 10 stands, KDV Limited 61, Mupangara 56, Nyika Limited 6, Eatout Trading 4, Warsman Investments 3 and Sparkle Incorporation has nothing.
This brings the total number of stands to 194.
