Businessman Wicknell Chivayo has pledged to donate Toyota Land Cruiser ICU ambulances to Government-run hospitals in each of the country’s 10 provincial capitals.
Each ambulance, valued at US$90 000, is set to bolster healthcare delivery across Zimbabwe.
Announcing the pledge on his X account, Mr Chivayo linked the donation to President Mnangagwa’s 83rd birthday, describing it as a tribute to the leader’s vision.
He stated that the ambulances, equipped for critical care, would help ensure patients in provincial hospitals receive swift and essential medical attention.
“I am delighted to commit to donating these ambulances, which I humbly request be allocated to the general hospital in each provincial capital,” Mr Chivayo wrote.
“This gesture is a way to honour President Mnangagwa’s exceptional leadership and his dedication to the nation.”
The donation aligns with the Presidential Hospital Refurbishment Programme, an initiative aimed at transforming Zimbabwe’s public referral hospitals into modern facilities.
Projects under this programme include upgrades at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, where the maternity wing, nursing school, and accommodation facilities are undergoing significant improvements.
The programme also involves partnerships with Belarus to enhance medical infrastructure and introduce advanced equipment, all aimed at achieving the Vision 2030 goal of an upper-middle-income society.
Mr Chivayo tied the announcement to Munhumutapa Day celebrations, which he described as a moment to reflect on historical achievements and honour Zimbabwe’s leaders.
He mentioned that the ambulances would only be handed over once President Mnangagwa approved the gesture.
“The final handover depends on the Principal’s approval,” Mr Chivayo noted.
The ambulances are part of a larger pledge that includes 10 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series VXRs, each worth US$190 000, along with US$100 000 in cash for each ZANU PF provincial chairperson.
Mr Chivayo stated that this broader donation recognises the chairpersons’ role in strengthening the party’s organisational base.
Last month, Mr Chivayo donated 10 luxury buses, each valued at approximately US$195 000, bringing the total donation to an impressive US$1,95 million.
He revealed on social media that this contribution was part of a broader vision to support the church.
Additionally, he pledged to donate another 10 buses by December and a further 10 by April 2026.
The buses have been distributed to 10 branches nationwide, including Coca Cola, Domboshava, Chiweshe, Warren Park, Rashanu Dande, Negomo Rushanga, Highfields Gwanzura, and Chitungwiza Velvet.
