Chi, as Maraire is popularly known, shed tears during a performance in Bulawayo on Friday evening and told the audience that the pain is deep and she sometimes cries as she remembers Chisvo
“I sometimes cry as I remember Adam during my performances. Adam went too soon,” she said when she was on stage.
“I dedicate the next song, Madzibaba, to him.”
Chisvo succumbed to diabetes in mid-July died at Harare Central Hospital.
In an interview after the show, Chi said she was devastated by Chisvo death as their relationship had developed to become more than just colleagues.
“We had been working together for more than 17 years and I can say he was now more than just someone I work with. He had become a brother I could go to for advice both in my music and family life,” she said.
The mbira queen performed for over an hour at the upmarket Horizon Pub and Restaurant where she thrilled music lovers.
Chiwoniso was accompanied by Josh Meck, who was on the guitar in her solo performance.
She played a repertoire of songs that included “Madzibaba”, “Wandirasa”, “Ivainesu”, “Vakuru Vanorapa” and “Inzwawo Kuchema” among others.
Chiwoniso said she would return to the City of Kings before the year ends.
