ZIFA presidential aspirant James Takavada suspects that most councillors are in Phillip Chiyangwa’s corner ahead of the December 5 elections.
Takavada, a Warriors legend, says people are trying to change the natural order by pushing Chiyangwa into local football’s highest office.
The maverick Chiyangwa says he has 41 of the 58 votes in the bag already and Takavada’s unease seems to be giving credence to that claim.
“Look here, we have a very dangerous situation at hand. Many people are choosing to believe that the sun rises from the west to the east when we all know it is the opposite.
“Why do we want to reinvent the wheel? Football needs football people, period,” roared the 1984 Soccer Star of the Year.
“Look at Zambia next door, they have progressed with Kalusha Bwalya, a former player who knows all the nitty-gritties of the game.
“I can foresee the darkest hour in our football because there is a risk that the councillors will vote for the wrong person. Having a million or billion dollars in one’s account doesn’t qualify someone to run football if that individual is not from the game.
“It is up to Zimbabweans to choose to become the laughing stock of the world by allowing such a disaster to happen.”
Takavada threatened to walk away from the game if the councillors make what he terms a catastrophic error.
“I feel things are going the wrong way. Perhaps I might consider going into rugby or some other sport if the wrong candidate is selected on December 5.
“However, if people do not want me that is not a problem.
“Football has given me a lot and I just want to give back.”
