CHOPPIES supermarket, Nkulumane branch has embarked on a massive clean-up campaign in the suburb in a bid to promote a clean and healthy lifestyle in the neighbourhood.
The clean-up campaign was done in collaboration with three schools Nketa High, Nkulumane High and Mabhukudwane Primary School.
Other stakeholders who also assisted in carrying out the exercise last week included Medtech — distributors of Clere products, Unilever, Straitia beverages and National Foods. The clean-up exercise targeted 10 different points in the neighbourhood, which are considered vital and should be kept in a clean and healthy state.
Ten groups made out of schoolchildren, teachers, residents and Choppies staff picked up litter and swept areas near and around the clinic, water points and churches.
Choppies group of supermarkets chairperson and former Zimbabwean ambassador to South Africa, Ambassador Phelekezela Mphoko, said the initiative was meant to ensure that residents of the suburb adopted a clean and healthy lifestyle.
“People should live and shop in a healthy environment. It is essential for us as a service provider to carry out such exercises, as we seek to give back to the communities that support us,” he said.
The clean-up exercise was launched recently at the Choppies branch at the Bulawayo Centre.
