GWERU City came from behind to hand Chrome Stars their second successive defeat when the two teams clashed at Mbizo Stadium in a Zifa Central Soccer League encounter on Saturday.Stars surged ahead in the first half before Gweru City levelled proceedings through former Hardbody striker Owen Motsi in the 53rd minute.
Willie Zhuakinyu ensured that the visitors collected maximum points when he fired from close range in the 75th minute.
Earlier, Chrome Stars had lost to Whawha 0-3 which was their first defeat of the season.
The loss to Gweru City saw the chrome miners sliding a place down from third position while “Chiwororo” as Gweru City are affectionately known, moved to sixth position on the log with 16 points.
City coach Jeremiah Neganda expressed satisfaction with the result and said the win would ensure that they are within reach of the pacesetters.
“I am happy with the win. We are not far away from the log leaders so we are still in with a chance to win the championship. We now need to be consistent if we are to pull through at the end of the season,” he said.
In other matches, Whawha maintained their fine run when they edged FC Platinum Under 19 one nil with the solitary strike coming from the boot of Albert Matewu.
Army side Tongogara, who lead the standings with 23 points, beat Blanket Mine 1-0.
Vumbachikwe, who recorded their first win of the season last weekend after a 2-1 win, followed that up when they clobbered Gokwe-based Chomumvuri Pirates 3-0 to move out of the relegation zone.
