CHROME Stars have a chance to gain ground on table toppers Wha Wha when the Kwekwe-based outfit travel to Matabeleland North for a date with struggling Nkayi United in a Zifa Central Soccer League encounter.
The chrome miners brought their championship campaign back on track following a 5 -1 mauling of Silo United last weekend, a result which saw them powering to second position on the table.
A win against Nkayi United will see Stars maintain pressure on the log leaders who travel to Gwanda for a tricky tie against Blanket Mine.
Nkayi United have been the league’s whipping boys and anchor the standings after collecting six points from 15 games.
Their only victory is one achieved on a technicality after they were awarded three points last weekend on a three-nil score line against expelled Gokwe-based outfit, Chomumvuri Pirates.
However, Nkayi United secretary, Benias Ncube buoyed by a two all draw against Gaths Mine a fortnight ago said his side is ready to collect its first set of maximum points on the field of play.
“The boys are raring to go and have been motivated by our last game when we drew two all with Gaths Mine. We want by all means to avoid relegation because it will be unfair for the Nkayi community to be in Division One for one season and then they get relegated,” he said.
Chrome Stars coach, Yolam Ngwira said his side will be hoping to extend the fine run by beating Nkayi United.
In other matches, third placed MSU who are tied with Stars on 29 points would be hoping to maintain their purple patch when they travel to Mashava for a date with unpredictable Gaths Mine.
ZRP Beitbridge who were inactive last weekend due to the ZRP Commissioner-General games during the course of the week return to action when they play host Zvishavane Stars at Dulibadzimu Stadium.
